I recently had a huge order of 90 items, which I know in my experience would take me over 2 hours to shop and probably require two shopping carts full to order.

My game-plan lately has been to do one giant grocery shop for the two of us that lasts us about a month and a half. I’ve only been visiting the grocery store myself for small top ups on fresh fruits and veggies. So far, it’s worked out well.

Is Superstore Delivery Worth It?

Paying someone else to do my grocery shopping for me is an exciting option that has freed up my time to focus on other tasks.

Accepting the Delivery from Superstore (Instacart)

I scheduled my grocery delivery for 12pm-2pm. I online shopped the order the previous night, and my shopper started shopping at 10:30am the next morning. My order arrived at 12:16pm and everything I ordered was included.

As required by Instacart, my groceries were transported in coolers with ice packs by my shopper. However, upon arrival, the bags are removed from the coolers and left as is. For that reason, you’ll want to schedule a delivery time when you expect to be home.

The Instacart shopper keeps the paper receipt, but you can see a digital version when you log in to your Instacart account.

I always try to order at least $250 at a time from Superstore to get the free gift that changes weekly. Previously it’s been a $25 gift card, a turkey, a value pack of sunscreen, and this time it was a club pack of hamburgers, valued at almost $25.

Shockingly, my shopper decided to make the executive decision and keep my Superstore “free gift” for themselves. They even sent me a message through the app saying that they “thought” I was vegetarian based on my order so they kept them. I’m not. I just get my meat elsewhere. I couldn’t believe it.

On top of that, my ice cream arrived melted. I could see the progress of the shopper who was picking my order and noticed that was one of the first things they picked on a 90 item order, which made zero sense…

Superstore delivery via Instacart does allow you to have your groceries delivered if you are not home. You can select this option at checkout when you’re placing your online order.

Keep in mind with this option you’ll take full responsibility for the order after it has been delivered, including loss due to theft or damage due to temperature sensitivity, so you will want to be prepared for that.

Does Instacart deliver to Apartments or Work?

Instacart also delivers to apartments and workplaces, but they recommend having a separate account for business purposes.

How Much Does Delivery Cost for Superstore (Instacart)?

Is there a minimum order amount for grocery delivery?

Yes, the minimum amount to place an order is $10.

Can You Earn PC Optimum Points with Instacart?

Yes! Just enter your PC Optimum card number in your Instacart profile to earn points as you normally would!

How Do the Online Prices Compare to In-Store Prices?

The prices are a bit higher online than they are in store. In-store prices, promotions, offers, coupons and discounts may not apply online. However, there is a spot on the checkout page where you can insert online promo codes and occasionally Instacart does flash sales where they offer free delivery for 12 hours. Keep checking the Instacart website to see if there is free delivery when you’re looking to order.

Should You Tip on Instacart?

Yes, by default a 5% tip option is selected, but I’d recommend bumping that up, especially if you want your order on time. Instacart shoppers can see the tip before selecting your order, and the better paying ones get taken first.

If your experience was less than ideal, or exceeded your expectations, you can adjust the shopper’s tip up to 24 hours after delivery.

What is the Instacart Delivery Fee?

There is a delivery fee of $3.99, but keep in mind there is also a service fee, plus you’ll be expected to tip.

The service fee pays the shopper and varies based on how big your order is, if there are heavy items included in your order, and your distance from the store.

Here’s a breakdown of how much it cost for my Instacart grocery delivery in Chilliwack, BC:

$21.88 service fee

$3.99 delivery fee

$35 tip (this amount is optional, and up to you)

Total: $60.87 on my $437 Superstore grocery order of 90+ items (a 13% cost).

With a tip and service fees you can estimate a 10-15% cost for delivery. 

What is Instacart Express?

With Instacart Express, you can get free grocery delivery on orders over $35 and a reduced service fee on all orders. They say you can save an average of $7 per order. The Instacart Express account costs $99 per year after the 2 week free trial period.

What Payment Methods are Accepted with Instacart?

Instacart accepts all major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, as well as Visa Debit. 

The Superstore (Instacart) Website Experience

The online shopping experience was very easy. Everything was organized by department and it shows items I’ve ordered before first, so they’re easy to order again. Superstore offers at least 100 products in almost every department, and in general it is very easy to see exactly what you’re getting.

Almost every product has a clear photo attached to the description, which includes grams or millilitres to indicate size. However, there is no nutritional information on the online product description.

If the product is suspected to be out of stock, the website will prompt you to choose a replacement or provide additional instructions for your shopper, or you can let the shopper suggest replacements, if you wish.

If you want to be involved with the shopping process, send your shopper a quick hello through the app when they start your order. It is very convenient to be able to chat with the shopper through the app and be as involved with the shopping process as you’d like, and monitor their progress with live updates as items are added to the cart. You can also provide your mobile number at check-out for a call or text with updates.

You can order groceries to be delivered for your Chilliwack family and friends too. Just add their address in your profile and select the one you want when you start shopping.

What To Do When Something Goes Wrong With Your Instacart Order

Needless to say, I wasn’t impressed about my shopper keeping my Superstore free gift or my melting ice cream, so I contacted Instacart support.

I first tried the online chat but that was useless. They offered me $5 USD. Nowhere close to the compensation I expected!

Phoning Instacart support went much better and I didn’t even have to wait on hold, which was a pleasant surprise.

Their first offer was a $20 credit. Still not satisfied, I asked them to do better and they compensated me with a $30 credit + free delivery next time.

If you run into troubles, consider phoning Instacart support. Be prepared to negotiate politely and you should have good luck.

Should You Try Superstore (Instacart)?

If you have a busy schedule, love convenience, having lots of options, or just enjoy online shopping, you will definitely want to try out Instacart grocery delivery. Superstore and Instacart make it extremely easy for Chilliwack residents to save time shopping for all the essential items you need in your everyday life and fit delivery into your schedule, while also providing you with the option to help out family and friends with deliveries to their doorsteps as well.

It’s a little bit of the luck of the draw with which shopper you get, so it would be nice to clear up some things so there are more consistent expectations for each shopper.

Having said that, despite the hiccups, all in all this was a big order that saved me a ton of time and the shopper did a good job of picking quality replacements and being earlier than expected.

Shopping a big order like mine was a lot of work which I definitely appreciated. I would recommend Superstore Instacart delivery and will definitely plan to use Instacart for my Chilliwack Superstore groceries to be delivered as often as I can.
